Greetings!

The Guild is trying to get members in each state to collaborate on a "State Knife". These knives will be used to help raise money for the Guild.

Here are the first 2 knives that have come in and they have done a great job. Thank you very much and congratulations to the New Mexico and South Carolina makers!!

The Texas knife was finished but Linda Karst-Stone offered to scrimshaw the knife and I should get it back in a day or 2. I will post it then.

All these knives are gorgeous and so different; I think they represent the Guild's diversity very well.

Thank you to all who contributed on these knives! You did a great job!

Looking great! Utah knife is in the mail. Makers involved are: Jim Ence, Steve Johnson, Steve Rapp, Ricardo Velarde and John Young. It was a lot of fun making this Drop Point.

Perhaps these ought to be shown on the page with the table holders? Or, a link to photos of the State Knives would be good. Thanks for all your work!

Why did the pictures of new state knives stop being posted? New ones came up for a while then nothing. How many have been recieved? I have been sending customers to look at the pictures but nothing new has been posted since January 31st.Daniel Winkler

No other knives have been posted because we have been too busy. Besides there is only a couple of knives missing.

I really appriciate the fact that your time is very limited and the compensation you recieve as a Board member is not enough to even begin to cover the time you willingly give to the Guild. However, this is a position you chose to be in. As a state leader I personally asked each of the North Carolina members to donate their time to this project. Just because there are only a "couple" of knives that have not been pictured does not make them less important than the 9 that are represented. The photographs you have posted are very good but I understand you may not be able to devote the time to set up for the other state knives. If it would be helpful I could ask Russ Sutton if he would post a picture of the North Carolina knife. He took some shots before mailing the knife to you. They would not look the same and it wouldn't help with any other knives that are not represented. Maybe the other states knife/knives could be posted in the same manner.

The North Carolina knife was sent out to have the makers' name written on it so I will post a photo of it when it comes back here. In the mean time you are welcome to post the photo you took before you sent it.

Allen:The North Carolina knife had the state logo and the state name on the knife. What other name needed to be on the knife.
Thanks
Russ Sutton

Russ:
At first we were not going to put the names of the makers on the knives, just on the certificates. Then Bruce asked several dealers if the knives would be worth more with the names of the makers on them. Most of all them replied that they would not be interested in the knives if the makers' names were not on them in some form. So in order to maintain a level of collectability we decided to put names on the knives by etching them on the spine or having Linda Karst scrimshaw them. The scrimshaw is done only on the knives on which the etching would not have worked out.
I hope that answers your question.

How'd it go? I heard the Dan Clark got the Utah knife and is very happy. Does anyone know how the sales went? Thanks!

KMGAdmin
07-17-2006, 03:21 PM
Yes, how did the sales go? I was by there a couple of hours before the sale ended. There was a $500.00 reserve on each knife.
It should not be hard to list each knife and the price received and also the ones that did not meet the reserve.
Regards,
Rhett Stidham

Thanks, Gene. It looks like it was well worth the effort. I, for one, would like to thank every single maker who took the time to work on a knife for this project. That's the spirit of the Guild. People working to make things better. Thanks everyone, those who made knives, those who are presently working on knives and those who, in the future, choose to participate in this great project.!

Hi You'all,
Don't forget the one Edmund Davidson for the Virginia State knife, sold it and is, or sent a check to the Guild for the proceeds...or so I hear....

Good effort by some fine folks!!!!

I guarantee this, if we do this again, Indiana will participate and so should a number of other states who couldn't for one reason or another.

Again, THANK-YOU to the folks who did the Guild Good!

I was gonna edit this to correct my pathetic spelling.....just know my spelling and keystroke skills are pathetic..but my heart is in the right place....

Thanks John! I also want to thank everyone who was involved in one way or another and supported this project. If you think about this, it has never been done before on this scale.
Congratulations to all :)

There surely is a lot of good that can be done when good men and women work together for a common goal. This is the spirit of the Knifemakers' Guild! Thanks to everyone who participated.

Jack Davenport has taken pictures of the state knives we still have. It is our intention to get them posted on the site and auction them. If we can ever get the site current we will start.
