Hello All

My name is Marvin Winn. My mentor was a member of the KMG. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know other members of the guild, around the country and in my area.
I started making knives under the tutoring of John I Shore in 2001. Sold my first knife in Alaska in 2002 at a gun and knife show in Anchorage. I get great satifaction out of taking a flat piece of metal and making someting useful and pleasing to the eye. Grant it I am no master of my trade but I give it my all with the tools that I have.
I am 38 years old, married, 3 children ( 2 of my own and 1 step ). I am a resident of the state of Washington. I lived in Alaska for 17 years and was tired of the extreme cold and winter conditions. I met my new wife who took me to Texas and then her job took us to Deer Park, WA.
Looking forward to talking with and sharing with you all.

Hello Marvin, it's good to see you here. Your right, there is no greater feeling than when someone pays you for something you made from scratch.

Stay Safe,

A.T.

P.S. Ya got a web site? I'd like to see your knives

My wife and I are in the process of putting it together and will have it online in a few days ( hopefully ). But here is a couple for you to see in the meantime.

Two good looking hunters. So have you applied for membership in the Guild?

Also, may I suggest that you turn off the date on the photos you post on your web site.

Stay Safe,

A.T.

I have not applied for membership yet. It is a goal of mine though.

Welcome. Nice knives. If you want to save your time for knifemaking and have someone else make your sheaths, I have a fellow in Washington who makes mine. Good work at a reasonable price. Let me know.

I really enjoy the whole process from start to finish. I have just started playing with tooling. My daughter (13) loves to draw and has picked it up very well. There are free classed at the Tandy Leather Factory in Spokane, every Saturday. Thanks for the offer though. If I get really busy, I might look you up for that number. Here is a little something that my daughter has done.

Here is the first tooled sheath that I did for my father in law's christmas present. That green canvas guthook above.

Honestly, if it wasn't for my wonderful wife supporting me in my dream to make knives, I wouldn't be as active in trying to meet new people and learn so many new things. I would probably be in the Alaska oil fields, like the past 17 years, working on turbines and compressors. I have so many things to learn about the industry and marketing. ( Thanks AT for your words of wisdom )

LOL! I don't think it's 'words of wisdom', it's more than likely my 29 years of learning from my mistakes.

Stay Safe,

A.T.

Ok its done. As of 8:30pm here in Washington I have my website up and running. Feel free to look it over and "constructive critics" are welcome, as this is my wife and I's first try at making a website.
