I would like to know how you pros get that distinct grind line where you start the grind on each side of the blade. Mine don't look the same on both sides of the blade & are not distinct. Talking about a flat grind. I am using a Wilton Square Wheel Grinder. Someone told me I could clamp a piece of brass to each side, but I tried that and the clamp gets in the way. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

I flat grind almost all of my knives. When I firet started making I would file my Ricasso in and that way when you came to that area you could feel it.
First draw your center line then use a small square to draw a line across the center line (edge) as your ending point. Take a square file and file your bevel.
I hope this is what you were asking.
If I can help you in any way please feel free to call me. I'm in California and you can caal in the evenings until 11:00 pm 9530)357-2393 or email me at handcannons@shasta .com
